Pepsi: New Logo Brings Bad Taste?
If it does, I am truly disappointed.
I have been a Pepsi drinker for as long as I can remember. I have tried Coca-Cola, sampled other not-so-popular colas, but my loyalty has always reverted back to Pepsi. There is nothing in this world that can compare to that wonderful Pepsi burn. It’s almost like, that first cigarette after long, exhilarating sex. Let’s put it this way – I should considering owning stock in the company – I’d get rich off my own money – well, up until this new logo came out.
*insert bubble burst here*
Christmas 2008 was quite the beverage upset for me and my partner, who is also an avid Pepsi fan. Just to make my point, my partner will not drink anything BUT Pepsi (yes, we have a horrible Pepsi addiction but we’ve pretty much come to terms with it). We were introduced to the new Pepsi logo and thought – “where did this come from, another country?” We tasted it, and our response was less than favorable. We were assured it was REAL Pepsi, but there was no possible way – Pepsi tastes GOOD, this tasted like – Coca-Cola trying to be flatter than usual. We do consider ourselves self-proclaimed Pepsi experts. Our next step was investigating possible ingredient changes. After all, nothing can fool these taste buds.
We inspected the bottle, compared ingredients, didn’t seem like anything changed – but our immediate response was “they did something different”. The taste was extraordinarily flat, there was no famous Pepsi burn, and it tasted extra-syrupy than usual, quite like how Coke tastes. So, okay, maybe they just got a bad bottle. But, *insert sarcasm here* imagine our delight when we were presented with a whole case of this new Pepsi for Christmas. Ugh.
This is NOT a coincidence. The “old label Pepsi” did not have this taste. We were forced to buy cases of the “new logo Pepsi” this weekend and upon cracking open the first can, our disappointment was completely validated. IT TASTES DIFFERENT. What the hell did Pepsi do???? Something is definitely amiss. And we weren’t the only ones to notice this.
We are not happy with the 5 cases of Pepsi we just bought – and good thing it was only 5 cases because we usually buy a lot more than that. But to try and look on the bright side of things, maybe this new taste will help us wean off our Pepsi-sugar addiction. All I can say is, after spending the majority of my 42 years on this earth drinking Pepsi, my heart is officially broken. 😦
And the new logo? I’m not crazy about it. They could have done better with the $1M they spent on it. In fact, every time I see the new logo, it reminds me of the store Target. Now, I am no marketing or advertising guru – but where’s the originality in that? The old logo was undeniably Pepsi – and it didn’t remind me of anything other than, Pepsi.
I guess it’s time to find another beverage addiction. On that note, I think I’ll go grab some more coffee…. *sigh
All these companies change sweeteners for the products. I used to drink a lot of diet soda, but now I use Diet Kola Capsules – it has all the stuff in the can, in a pill. Well, almost – there is no aspartame, no caramel, no acid, so my brain, teeth and bones are a lot better. See http://www.dietkola.com for more info

I just had my first can of Pepsi with the new logo. I had no idea the taste was going to be different. It’s NOT good at all! I have loved Pepsi for many years and am so disappointed with the taste of this new crap. I hope enough people complain to them and they change it back to the “old” Pepsi that we all know and love.

Fear not, fellow Pepsi addicts – I called the toll free number on their can! lol Seriously, we did. The poor woman who answered the phone must have thought she was being ganged up on. First, our niece gets on the phone to complain, then hands the phone over to my partner, who then hands it to me. We all certainly gave her a what-for. She assured us that nothing has changed other than the logo. We told her she was wrong. How can ALL these people say that the taste quality has changed when it hasn’t? Is it logo-paranoia? Are we all having some psychological malfunction? I don’t think so.
The short story of it is — she claims she will pass the information along to quality control. (yeah right). But, at least we had our say. Our next mission will be making that video for the president of Pepsi. In case you are wondering what I’m talking about — Pepsi’s President wants to know what YOU think of their new logo – and he wants it on a video. Go to Pepsi.com and check it out.
Peace out and stay Pepsi strong.

Maybe they didn’t change anything, but maybe the inside of the cans have changed…..causing the taste to change. The taste has DEFINITELY changed, and it is DEFINITELY WORSE!!!

I sent my DH to the grocery store because I had been feeling really sick. So he pours me a glass and I about spit my pills across the room. I asked him what the h*ll is this??? He said my head spun around and I spit pea soup… I was positive he MUST have bought the wrong soda. So I got my robe on and cried when I saw it was my beloved Pepsi… I have been drinking decaf tea for weeks. I won’t drink any other soda.

I feel your pain. My girlfriend is the same way, she won’t drink anything else either – she is like, super-uber loyal to Pepsi. They (Pepsi) can’t say nothing has changed when it’s obvious something has. Maybe the decline in sales might make them rethink. I know I won’t be buying as much as I used to … I started buying more water and juices (which is better for us anyway, but still…)
If I could only feel another Pepsi burn …. 😦 It’s been so long ….. *wiping tear*

I FULLY AGREE, I AM ADDICTED TO PEPSI AND WILL DRINK NOTHING ELSE. I NO LONGER LIKE THE TASTE OF THE PEPSI IN THE NEW CAN. IT TASTE FLAT THE MINUTE TO POUR IT???? I CALL PEPSI AND COMPLAINED, BUT THEY SAID THEY DID NOT CHANGE THE FORMULA. I CHECK THE INGREDIENTS WITH AN OLD CAN OF PEPSI AND IT IS EXACTL THE SAME???? I THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH THE MATERIAL OF THE CAN.

So here is my theory – the cans CAN’T be the reason why the taste has changed — I also buy the 2-liter bottles, and it STILL tastes different. Pepsi did something and they are not fessing up. Bad karma, man.
I was told last night that our brother in law (who is also a big Pepsi fan) refuses to buy the new logo’d Pepsi. He’s on a mission to hunt down the older cans. Around where I live, I haven’t seen an older can in forever. I think I am going to network myself to friends in other states – maybe they have some leftovers I can get my hands on.
My advice to Pepsi — whatever it is you did – undo it – because you did something different. I will not buy the excuse that it might be a “bad batch” as your customer service rep tried to convince. Unless this “bad batch” is nationwide – you’ve got a BIG problem on your hands that I can only see getting bigger.
It’s a big disappointment.

I Agree. This “new” Pepsi tastes terrible. As soon as i saw the new logo in stores i thought….Oh crap I hope they didn’t change the beverage in any way…. So i bought it in good faith….You all know the rest….horrible tasting soda….I went back to the store looking for a case of the old batch…I FOUND ONE….So i bought it and brought it home…When i opened the case it was filled of the new pepsi cans…Needless to say i was pretty upset…So if you find a old looking case with the old logo, inspect it first so you don’t waste money like i did. I am throwing out bith cases of this crap as i can’t get a refund for this horrible drink they claim is pepsi.. And everyone I know tells me im crazy and they didn’t change the drink just because they got a new look for it…this site is BOOKMARKED. lol.

there is something strange going on here. I just noticed pepsi tasting differently about a week or so ago. i drink diet so i thought maybe it was just diet that had changed so I bought a 12 pack of regular and it tasted different as well.this prompted me to google it which led me here, now, I often participate in the forums at broadbandreports.com, so i did a search of their forums to see if anybody there noticed a change. well some did but the discussion was a year old! it seems to me that pepsi has been implementing this change gradually, either that or the pod people are taking over and one day soon we will all look back at this as much ado about nothing.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I seriously thought I was going crazy and so did my fiance. Ever since my first sip I noticed it was different but no one else did. Then yesterday I went to get a diet pepsi and all they had was the new bottle, I was pissed but grabbed it and went on my way. I had 1 sip and it tasted like crap. It seemed so flat and gross that I threw the entire bottle away. I think I too am going to have to stop drinking diet pepsi as soon as all the old style is gone. Very sad!

PEPSI tastes SHIT now…….it tates like someone has mixed sprite into it or something. I have bought it in 5 different places, some in bottles and some from fast food chains and it the same bad change. I hope they change it back at some point, when they realise this drink is digusting!

So I thought I was excited to see some old version Pepsi bottles in the grocery store this morning. My initial instinct was to buy as many as possible, but I only bought two. I drove home with excitement thinking I’ll finally taste the Pepsi I grew up loving.
Wrong.
It was flat and nastier than ever. In fact, my girlfriend said it tasted watered down and flat. The dates on the bottles were in check, so it wasn’t an issue of them being too old.
Okay Pepsi, I’m not sure if you are being funny or you think your “fan base” are idiots. Whatever you did, you did wrong and we’ve officially decided to stop buying Pepsi. Store brand soda tastes better than this (and cheaper too). We are bringing these back and asking for a refund.
I think I’ll go play Funeral For A Friend now and reflect silently as I sip on some cranberry juice.
